Gain meaningful workforce experiences in the field of arts and culture through placements at arts/cultural institutions.

Prepare to apply and transition to college through professional development and the support of college mentors.

Develop knowledge of and connection to the city’s vibrant arts culture through panels of local artists, studio visits, and trips to local arts areas/organizations.

Strengthen oral and written communication skills through professional development and the support of writing coaches.

Connect, create, and catalyze change in their lives and communities.

“I gained so much confidence from BAI. I would never have applied to the colleges that I did and there is no way I would be where I am now (Georgetown University) without BAI.”

—Jada Snyder, Arts for Learning BAI Associate, Georgetown University graduate, and 2018 BAI Intern

"My life as a Bloomberg Intern has been life-changing. I have had the opportunity to work at a worksite that has taught me a lot about the working world and how a performing artist's work can be different from others. I have also learned things such as mindfulness, time management, how to become a better writer, and more. This internship has given me the confidence and determination to accomplish my goals in life."

—Kaliya Eaton, 2021 Bloomberg Arts Intern

“BAI has been truly influential on who I am. Some doors have definitely opened up because of the Bloomberg name! It has really shaped how I take space in the world.”

—Marisa Guy, studying Environmental Studies, Art and Political Science at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, BAI 2017

"This internship is beautiful. The people working here truly care about bettering the next generation and making us confident in our futures and ourselves. It's not something you experience often as a teen but for that exact reason it's something that will be cherished forever."

—Barri Senae Moore, BAI 2020 Cohort

“I struggled with figuring out a major and BAI really helped. Even down to just the conversations I was having with college mentors and my peers.”

—Miggy Alumbro, studying architecture at the University of Maryland, BAI 2018

ABOUT

Bloomberg Philanthropies

Unique among todayʼs leading philanthropists, Mike Bloomberg has run both a multi-billion-dollar company - Bloomberg LP, a technology company he founded in 1981 - and one of the worldʼs largest cities. His entrepreneurial spirit, public-policy experience, and belief in the power of cities to drive solutions to pressing global problems define Bloomberg Philanthropiesʼ approach to making the world a better place.

Bloomberg Philanthropies focuses on five key areas for creating lasting change: public health, environment, education, government innovation, and arts & culture. These five areas encompass the issues Mike Bloomberg and his team are most passionate about, and where they believe the greatest good can be achieved. While Bloomberg Philanthropies works on a wide range of issues within each focus area, they apply a distinctive approach to all of our undertakings. Learn more.

About the Bloomberg Arts Internship Program

In 2012, Bloomberg Philanthropies created the Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI) program in New York City as a pipeline for public school students to college and careers in the arts. The program’s success led the foundation to expand its reach to many more cities including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, and Washington, DC. As Baltimore enters its ninth year, Arts for Learning Maryland is in search of 50 dynamic Baltimore City Public Schools rising seniors to make up the 2025 cohort.
