Description
Tola’s Room is a Puerto Rican home museum and culture space in Northeast Baltimore that celebrates and educates visitors about Puerto Rican/Nuyorican culture and history, with an emphasis on Baltimore’s local Boricua narrative. The space hosts exhibitions, workshops, and collaborations, fostering a sense of belonging and continuity within the community. As part of this model, Tola’s Room offers a professional development interactive cultural concept that challenges the traditional notion of a classroom by asking, “What is a classroom?” Participants explore and redefine their understanding of the classroom as a community—not just a physical space, but as people, actions, understanding, and experiences that shape and enhance their educational practices as Cultural Leaders. This can be provided on-site at Tola’s Room or on location. There is a community tour element as part of this PD. Food and community resource materials will be provided.
