About This Program
An Emotional Day at School
Program Type
Assembly / Performance
Description
In this assembly, a young Michele appears by accident in an elementary school auditorium. She was supposed to be visiting her friend, Maria, but she got off at the wrong bus stop! As long as she’s there with this wonderful group of students, she decides to tell them a story through theatre, song, and dance of a crazy day she had in 1st (or 2nd or 3rd) grade. She shares the ups and downs of this day, being new at school, being frustrated in math class, having a glorious lunch of pizza, meeting a new friend, and more. Students participate in identifying the emotions she is performing, and they can also express them with her from their seats. She shows how as an artist, she can express and shape these emotions into dance, which she does to Oscar Peterson’s “Mumbles,” and shares her own original song, “Take a Breath,” about how she calms herself down when she gets emotionally overwhelmed, and asks students to sing along with the chorus.
