About Early Childhood at Arts For Learning

Arts for Learning believes that the way we engage children in the first years of their lives has a profound impact on future learning and success.

As the Maryland regional affiliate of Wolf Trap, we expand access to the arts for Maryland’s youngest children during the critical early learning years.

Our Early Childhood programs, led by Wolf Trap-trained Teaching Artists, use arts-integrated learning strategies that connect the arts with core subjects such as language, literacy, science, and math to bring learning alive. These programs are all delivered through an embedded professional development model that aims to impart these arts strategies and skills to caregivers, families, and classroom teachers.

Early Learning Access for All

“I have become part of a community of teaching artists and so many wonderful colleagues in my fellow teaching artists, mentors and trainers. The fact that we have a common purpose and a joint commitment to equitable teaching practices and abolitionist teaching is uplifting and hopeful for the future of our wider community.”

“I've learned so much doing Early Learning programming through A4L/Wolf Trap of MD. My ability to scaffold for where a learner is has grown exponentially. I also find myself to be comforted by the community artists enjoy when working for/with A4L.”

“As an Early Learning Artist with A4L, I've been able to craft an approach to leading work with early learners that feels authentically me while engaging the participants.”

“The training [provided to Early Learning artists] is incredibly thorough and exponentially helpful to developing quality programming. There is also an incredible sense of community among A4L's Early Learning roster, intentionally fostered by Arts for Learning and staff member Valerie Branch.”
