About this Artist

The artists at Kalanidhi Dance share this sense of responsibility. We were founded in 1991 as a dance school, so our commitment to sharing dance with young people is at the forefront of everything we do. Foremost, we hope to instill a love for Kuchipudi in our students, and a deep understanding and appreciation for its history, philosophy, and cultural underpinnings. The impact our education program makes on our students is quite deep and lasts many years. Students who train in our school are with us from childhood, through adolescence, and into their teen years. During this formative time, they connect with their culture, develop a strong sense of identity, and create lifelong friendships with fellow students. Many attain a level of artistic proficiency that allows them to convey beauty, emotion, and meaning through their dance.

But we also know that our impact as arts educators can reach far beyond the four walls of our studio. Arts experiences expose young people to new ways of thinking, feeling, and expressing. It also engenders empathy – a quality that is so critical in today’s world. This is why we are committed to reaching a greater number of young people by taking Kuchipudi directly into schools and community centers through assemblies and workshops. Our hope is for these programs to spark curiosity and inspire children to approach the world with open minds and open hearts.
