Description

Explore the enchanting realm of “Alphabetisimo” in this captivating assembly by teaching artist Natasha Mirny. Step into the hidden House of Light, where letters and words spring to life, frolic, and weave enchanting tales. Watch as shadow letters transform into mesmerizing shadow characters, breaking free from their shadowy abode to become lively flat puppets.

This immersive experience provides adults with a valuable opportunity to enrich reading skills and create engaging storytimes at home or in the classroom and introduces shadow puppets as an accessible resource for early English language learners. Infused with elements of STEM, children will delve into the intricacies of light and shadow through shadow theater, unraveling the mysteries of light travel and manipulation of shadow size. Following the workshop, discussions will delve into diverse books exploring themes related to the alphabet, silhouettes, shapes, light, and shadows.

Technical Requirements

10’ x 10’ clear area
Access to performance area 1 hour before set up
The artist will provide a sound system for audiences of over 50 people or for large rooms/gyms
The artist will need a power outlet to plug in the sound system
The room needs to have blinds or the ability to block the light at least partially
The artist will be in communication about additional technical requirements specific to the program
